Anti aging products have numerous ingredients that make them perform their best in rejuvenating the skin. Some antiaging products should not be combined with others and some do not work as the products claim. Following are 10 tips on what ingredients to look for in antiaging product and why they are used.

1. Argireline: This ingredient has the ability to calm the muscles of the face. It is an amino acid peptide chain that "paralyzes" the muscles. The effects last up to eight hours.

2. Coenzyme Q-10: This has the ability renew skin cells, and repair skin, which has been sun damaged, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and give the skin a brighter appearance.

3. Retinol: This ingredient is one of the more dangerous ones. A form of vitamin A, it has properties that rejuvenate the skin cells, by promoting skin sloughing. However, if used in large quantities or with other vitamin A containing creams and products, it can cause redness or cause superficial skin burns. Whenever using a cream containing retinol, limit exposure to the sun and using other creams.

4. Alpha Hydroxyl Acid: This rejuvenation ingredient includes all glycolic, lactic, malice acids, tartaric and citric acids. While this ingredient is excellent in rejuvenating he skin and promoting new cell growth, it could be potentially dangerous, especially if used in conjunction with retinol and other AHAs.

5. Beta Hydroxy (Salicylic Acid): This ingredient can even out a person’s skin tone, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and prevent acne breakouts. However, if used in a high concentration, it too can cause redness and other irritation to the skin.

6. Collagen: While collagen is a natural part of everyone’s skin, using the ingredient in creams is mostly ineffective at treating wrinkles. Because no one has found a good way for the skin to absorb it, those creams in which collagen is used are useless as a topical treatment. Collagen should only be used as an injectable form in a treatment performed by the physician.

7. Hyaluronic Acid: This ingredient allows the skin to retain its moisture, thus giving the skin a rejuvenated appearance. A common form of this acid is Restylane, which is given in injections at a physician’s office, however it is found in creams as well.

8. Hydroquinone: This particular ingredient is most effective on age spots and to even skin tone, both of which can give a more youthful appearance. Used in a concentration of 1 to 2% it is efficient at rejuvenating the skin.

9. Liposome: This ingredient aids in the skin cell repair process. Found in creams and other topical treatments, it can help reduce wrinkles and even skin tone.

10. Palmitoyl Pentapeptide: Otherwise known as  Matrixyl, works as a "wound healer", thus repairing damaged skin. It works as AHAs do, however without the damaging effects, redness and irritation.

When using any skin care for the first time, always make sure  you do not have an allergy to the ingredients or expose yourself to the sun too much. While many ingredients exist for use in anti aging skin care treatments, these 10 are the most widely used.
