Five Tips In Installing Your Post Lanterns

There are lots of post lanterns out there that are suited for our homes. It depends on what kind of designs are you prefer taking into account the general architecture and character of the house.  The lawns and gardens and your backyard of your home also deserve our attention, and should be treated with care. This area could be very attractive when evening comes and a special arrangement casts light and shadows harmoniously. Especially if you are using the right light for your home. Unlike other types of lights, post lanterns can be place anywhere in the yard. It is easy though to put this kind of lights since there is a pole attached for the purpose of holding the lantern. This is also a big advantage to illuminate your landscape, driveway and walkways so that when you arrive home, the illuminating light will help you for your safety. These lights are very stable and firm simply because they are kept secured to the ground and also the wiring so that it will not look messy and of course to provide safety and to prevent accidents.


Tips In Installing Your Post Lanterns

1. Gather all your materials and tools. These includes the post, lantern, PVC or galvanized conduit, PVC pipe, trencher, connectors, elbows, PVC adhesive, UF wiring cable, ground fault interrupter, (GFC) switch, hacksaw, hammer, screwdriver, wire snips, splicing caps, electrical tape, power drill with masonry or wood bit, shovel, posthole digger, gravel, cement.

2. Safety first. Turn off the power. Add light and style to your landscape with your new post lantern. You need to choose an inside light switch to tie your wiring into. The switch should be near in your door opening. Turn off power to circuit and tape a "DO NOT TURN BACK ON" sign to breaker.

3. Lay the Conduit. To run conduit outside, drill a hole through a wall of house. Bury the conduit or sink PVC pipe and run the conduit through the pipe. Rent a trencher to dig conduit. It should be 2 feet deep.  In the bottom of the hole lay the conduit pointing up and thread through post bottom up.

4. Connect and check all your wiring. Connect the wiring to your post lamp. Bind with electrical the ground lamp. Connect the lamp to post and lay it on the ground. Switch on the power to make sure that the connection works.

5. Secure the Post. Switch off the power and set post upright in hole. You should check the post for plumb and brace it with guy wires. Fill the hole with cement to 6 inches below the surface. When the cement is already dry, fill the remaining hole with some dirt and smooth surface then switch the power back on.

In installing these, make sure that you have the knowledge on how to install these lights. There are many books with excellent, easy to follow, illustrations and instructions.  Additionally, many of the big hardware or home and garden stores offer workshops for homeowners.
